Nordstrom YYC Opening Gala

Time to get your shopping on! As if we need any encouragement! the new Nordstrom space is going to have no shortage of customers with all the fashions you can shop from. It has taken over the old Sears location in Chinook Centre and completely recreated the place and filled it to the brim with beauty products, handbags & accessories, and of course incredible clothing for men, women, &  kids. Also it has a cafe (Ebar) and full service restaurant (Bazille). What more could a shopaholic ask for?! To top it all off Nordstrom has raised $180,000 for Alberta Children’s Hospital and Calgary’s United Way from ticket sales for the Opening Gala.

So get yourselves over to the store bright and early tomorrow, September 19th for the official opening. You can also treat you and your girl friends to the Pre-Opening Beauty Bash that goes from 7:30-9:30 am before the rest of the store opens.

Here are a few pictures of the new space with the living mannequins, silly photos from the photo booth and of course my outfit of the night. You can see a head-to-toe shot on my Instagram feed.

Happy Shopping!!

Winter Pink Marshmallow Dreams

Ah got you! you were thinking of some kind of pink marshmallow dessert concoction that I might have made and that peaked your interest. Well sorry to disappoint, but what you get is an outfit post. On the bright side I do look like a marshmallow in this coat! a stylish one if I do say so myself, haha.

I'm glad I waited to post this today as it is a super chilly day and from what I've seen on the weather network it's snowing in Calgary! Luckily for me I'm nestled warmly at my parents place where the heat is on and the only chance we have for snow is if it decides to move south of the city. Which, it probably will (insert sad face).

Baby You Blue My Mind

Over the past few days I've been obsessing over light blue everything. Shoes, handbags, dresses, you name it! I've tried on a dress at Zara and contemplated a purse from Aldo all in the last week. If you can't tell I'm smitten but not ready to commit. I think I'll be heading back for the Aldo purse or maybe ordering it online. Since spring items are only starting to come out now it might be a good idea to wait and see what other pieces I might fall in love with. Here are a few of the pieces that are just the perfect shade of light blue.
1. Trench Coat - Motel - $175
2. Sunglasses - Marc by Marc Jacobs - $120
3. Bracelet (set of 2) - Sole Society - $25
4. Eyeliner - Stila - $22
5. Earrings - Dannijo - $440
6. High Heels - Saint Laurent - $625
7. Handbag - 3.1 Phillip Lim - $800
8. High Heels - Gianvito Rossi - $725
9. Handbag - Aldo - $30

Making Statements

A girl does need a little bling in her life! Oh gosh I never thought I would say that... or anything pertaining to diamonds but when it comes to costume jewels I say go all the way! As my wardrobe changes and becomes more refined. The pieces that are usually purchases are ones that are simple and built to last. Not so many trendy items or crazy impulse purchases, what I'm trying to say is my wardrobe direction is going more classic but with a few embellishments like a more unique cut or texture to fabrics. My comfort lies in chambray shirts, black skinny jeans, and button down blouses. Very french and toned down from my teens when the latest new trend was always purchased and my closet was stuffed with a hectic miss match of bondage dresses, neon prints, and every colour of hoodie imaginable. What I really enjoy now is adding statement jewellery, a little ring there, a pop of colour with the flick of my hair, or a bold necklace to take my daytime outfit of blouse and black jeans to cocktail party or fashion event.
The above necklace could dress up a boring grey sweatshirt and jeans and turn it into a fashion dream. The little bit of raffia on the bottom gives it the ability to look casual and polished.
I recently received this Frilly Lilly necklace as a birthday gift, I've only begun thinking of ways to style it. With all it's warm reds it's just perfect for fall. Turtle necks and sweaters would be made for this one.
Boom! That was my first thought when I opened up the box from J. Crew that contained this necklace a few months back. And to be honest my first thought was 'How am I going to wear this? So. Much. Bling' It hung on my jewellery rack for weeks until it was styled with a dress for a friends wedding. But don't you think it would go great with a chambray and really add some spin to a simple outfit.
Ohh now these earrings are also new. I loved the combination of textures and stones that give it a casual beauty all while still making a statement. What it says to me is ... 'You can wear me with a cocktail dress but what I really want you to do is wear a striped top and cute ballet flats'. Great advice don't you think?
Lastly are my favourite though heavy on the ears pair. I love the raw stone and how you can see the veins to the rocks, it's much better then a polished diamond in my opinion.

Fall Finds

Photobucket
It's back to school time! which also means it's my favorite season for style. New fall styles are coming into stores and designers have showcased their new collections. The great thing about fall is I am still able to mix my new buys with my summer pieces. Besides the school work, it is the best time of year!

Here are a few of my fall fashion finds. H&M trousers, these are made from a nice stretch material and have leather accents on the waist band and pockets. River Island blouse for an on trend pattern. Basic Phillip Lim navy blazer is a must to dress up any outfit, even a t-shirt and jean combo. Simple ikat tote from Aldo in black makes it more transitional with outfits. Finally, it's the newest colour of the season. You would have to be blind not to see this colour popping up everywhere. Berry time! and no, I don't mean Rachel Berry although the new preview for Glee is kind of steamy. Add some of this sexy wine colour into your wardrobe in a jean or accessory like the ring above. I've already invested and have purchased a pair of jeans and a button down in this colour already.

Love Prevails

Here it is, the most recent shoot for the February Banners at Calgaryfashion.ca. Titled: Love Prevails
-->
Darkness and shadows may over come us, but there is always a softer side where Love Prevails. February is the month of love and our focus is to pair the bluntness and tough style of grunge with a muted pink hue. Soft and hard, love and lust. Turning up the heat we are using a dark palette showing the softer edge to shadows. A pairing of provocative outfits, with a contrasted delicate background the attitude is bad girl behaviour in the swirls of a little girls dream.

Flare x Aldo - Bish

Here is the newest collaboration from Aldo and Flare Magazines fashion director, Liz Cabral. After being announced over a month ago and finally in stores today. I dreamed about them, okay maybe not dreamed, but I sure thought about them a lot. Unfortunately I was studying today (darn exam week) so a lovely friend of mine picked them up for me. The bright pop of orange is super bright and florescent hued. Here are a few pictures below. I'm not a 100% sure about them just yet because I don't think they look that good on my feet and the rounded leather straps look a bit awkward and heavy. The problem is that I have wider feet so I don't think my feet look their best in these. Also, last Sunday the 17th was an amazing brunch done by some amazing and fashionable friends that included an exceptional speaker on top of the runway show. The speaker was Danielle Laporte and if you haven't heard of her you better head to her site now! Inspirational to say the least and made me think, really think, about my wardrobe, developing my style, and what items in it are dragging me down. You know those things that are too nice to let go or you talk yourself into thinking you will wear eventually, but never do! Or the downfall for many of us, the SALE. God, I have way to many pieces bought from sales, that have A: never been worn, or B: worn once. All this adds up and prevent myself from really being happy with my closet. So I'm starting to think more critically about each purchase and making sure I really love it before I look at the price (hardest thing to do! I'm a penny-pinching fashion fiend!) Oh well, while I'm thinking on these there are always other shoes out there.

Another shoe update though are these amazing shoes from Asos.com which were snagged last week. I loved them before I even knew the price. So for $49 they were a steal and I was watching them for a few months so uber excited that they are mine now.

okay so this was my mini break so back to studying! xo.
