It's already December 11th and where has all the time gone? Christmas is around the corner and I'm packing away for my weekend in Belgium. What I can honestly say is a winter in the UK is much more manageable than a winter in Calgary. For instance, gloves were not needed today when I walked to the tube and down Oxford Street. Nope not at all. A light sweater and my wool coat were plenty if not a little on the warm side. This is pretty unheard of in Calgary right now!
Well the past month has enlightened me to the wonders of sample sales in London and they are glorious! imagine getting amazing designers like Erdem, Alexander McQueen, Preen, Sophia Webster, and so many more for well you know ..sample sale prices and it's not for the picked over scraps like other places these are for beautiful runway pieces, sample sizes and over stock. for 50-90% off. You know how much I love a good flat lay so here is a mini update with some of the pieces purchased from Erdem and Sophia Webster..

Nordstrom YYC Opening Gala
Time to get your shopping on! As if we need any encouragement! the new Nordstrom space is going to have no shortage of customers with all the fashions you can shop from. It has taken over the old Sears location in Chinook Centre and completely recreated the place and filled it to the brim with beauty products, handbags & accessories, and of course incredible clothing for men, women, & kids. Also it has a cafe (Ebar) and full service restaurant (Bazille). What more could a shopaholic ask for?! To top it all off Nordstrom has raised $180,000 for Alberta Children’s Hospital and Calgary’s United Way from ticket sales for the Opening Gala.
So get yourselves over to the store bright and early tomorrow, September 19th for the official opening. You can also treat you and your girl friends to the Pre-Opening Beauty Bash that goes from 7:30-9:30 am before the rest of the store opens.
Here are a few pictures of the new space with the living mannequins, silly photos from the photo booth and of course my outfit of the night. You can see a head-to-toe shot on my Instagram feed.
Happy Shopping!!

Summer Whites
I'm pretty impressed and afraid of some of my new purchases. Yesterdays shopping excursion included predominately stark white and this concerns me as most of my wardrobe is black, grey or some other dark tone. So I better be careful of spills. Messy eater alert! It was also varied in style but considering my style is dependent on how I'm feeling that day it's good to have some choices from sexy rocker lips, stylish peplum, and the ever needed bohemian dress that will be worn for stampede and picnics.

Right On Target
It has officially been one week since the opening of 3 Target locations in our city (Market Mall, Chinook Centre, and Forest Lawn) and Shawnessy opened today. So what do you think? I can tell you what I think! The essence is there and so are some of the low prices, you can snag some cute summer dresses from 19.99-29.99 and get a stylish pair of sandals for 24.99. I visited the Market Mall and Chinook locations to see if there would be any difference in product depending on location, there was not much difference, and layout was about the same. I was not a fan of the rather small grocery section being located on the second floor. It felt awkward and as if they didn't even want it. But considering my last trip to Montana my choice buys from Target have always been housewares, clothing, and shoes. So I can live without it... unless they bring in Fruity Pebbles then I'd be all over those! Considering the exchange rate of the Canadian dollar I expected some prices to be lower and more competitive. Comparing prices in my head, electronics and entertainment are on par with prices at Wal-Mart and Best Buy. So expect to get some more interesting products like the Nate Berkus collection, Sam & Libby, C9 by Champion to name a few, but not the wow of some prices when you head to Montana.
A few favorite item spotted at Target:
Romper: 24.99 / Bath Towel: 12.99 / Eiffel Tower Lamp: 39.99 / Vanilla Bean Candle: 7.79 / Sandals: 24.99 / Rechargeable Speaker: 59.99

of Studs and Madeleines
I gave in to my obsessions for shoes and went to Zara and bought these jeweled and studded ballerina flats over the weekend. They are unique and striking with the combination of jewels, studs and a cute ankle strap. The only thing I'm afraid of is wearing them outside in the sub-zero weather and ruining the suede by stepping in slush. So these pretty things might have to wait for a dry and warm day.
Yesterday I also had a bit of time to use my new Madeleine pan and try out a new recipe. It was my first time going to Lina's Italian Market and it was fun to look through all the Italian goods and varieties of pasta, cookware, and of course desserts. Though Madeleines are a French dessert I cannot deny myself a baking pan that only costs $8 compared to the one at Williams-Sonoma that had been keeping my attention for the last few months and retails for $38.
So here's the finished product and my recipe adapted from The Art of French Baking:
Yield: 3 dozen
What you need:
9 tbsp unsalted butter, melted and cooled, plus extra for greasing1 cups all-purpose flour, sifted, plus extra for dusting unless you have a non stick pan
4 large eggs
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract, or grated zest of 1 lemon (I used the seeds of 1 vanilla bean)
Pinch of salt
Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Grease Madeleine molds with butter and lightly dust with flour. Unless yours is non-stick then you can skip this step
Whisk the eggs and sugar with an electric
mixer for 5 minutes, until pale and tripled in volume. Slowly fold in
the flour and butter, then the vanilla, lemon zest and pinch of salt.
Chill the batter in the refrigerator for two
hours before baking (I didn't find a need to do this maybe chill it for 1/2 and hour if you like). Pour into the prepared molds (mine was a bit thick so I spooned it into the molds and spread it around a little), halfway full, and
bake for 7-8 minutes.
These would be a great with your morning coffee or my favorite is dipping them into my hot chocolate after all the whipped cream has been eaten off.
Stay cozy!

Sunday Shoe Confession
So I've been a bit bad this month with shopping. I had a fun time yesterday trying on dresses with my mom at BCBG Max Azria and finding one that I'm absolutely in love with! So I may be heading to the store closest to me to check for my size which they didn't have at the one we had gone to yesterday. There was some shoe shopping at Winners and I came out with 2 pairs that are just adding to my over stuffed closet. So very bad considering the 3 other pairs added this month along with my Moschino belt and YSL skirt. Oops!

See the lights
Let’s escape to the city of twinkling lights where the adventure only ends when we need sleep. Let’s open a studio, taking pictures and making art. Happy and content we can go shopping everyday. Broke but in a city of possibility...
